i would suggest using very long scissors to cut the sides after you have removed the top and bottom.

On mine the paper just stuck to the mat and it pealed off everything no matter how slow i go

When you scan do you not use a different mat to the cutting??

Nice video! Bird's Nest Sansevieria is so easy & rewarding. Just never ever over-water it. Got this variety with the yellow rim too which seems not so common but very cheery. Always fun to see new babes popping up, and help them become independent and eventually have babes of their own. So many have grown on my window sills, and little ones been passed on too.

Did you use a low tack Brother mat? I have a lot of trouble getting paper off of the standard mat.

Thank you so much. Your instructions were really clear and you showed all the things I had questions about. Now I feel much better about this machine. I make journals and hubby and I are trying to start a little UA-cam channel. We're seniors (he's 80 and I'm 73) and some of this is a bit overwhelming. The hand cutting has become a little much for my old, shaky hands, but it has to be done. Today I saw a Scan 'n Cut for a decent price and was hesitant to buy it because all the other videos I watched showed having to go to the Brother management site... which we don't want to do... to cut anything. I am so grateful that you showed just scanning and cutting things. Because I have tonnes of ephemera to get cut for decorating journals. Finally it makes sense and I've bought that machine. This is going to be fun!

I just started doing this hobby and really like it. I cut the tops off using my handheld can opener and cut the bottoms off the same way. Of course the can is still curved and have to cut that part off. I found aluminum sheets at Roses store here in my town and I have no idea what they are used for but they were in the cookware aisle for $1. I bought two and am using them to practice embossing on. I also have soda cans that my neighbor gave me and have used those too. This is a fun hobby but I've already cut one of my fingers and it hurts like a paper cut. Ugh.
